There is a new choice for radio listeners in Sussex following the launch of `Oldies Sussex’ on the Sussex coast DAB radio multiplex.

The new service promises to be "never more than a minute away from the next great song".

With shorter commercial breaks and less clutter, there is more music to be played. The new station started broadcasting on February 4th and has an extensive playlist of songs dating back from the 1940’s through to the early 1980’s, promising an especially strong focus on music from the 1960’s and 1970’s.

There are also plans to introduce regular programming and music features including an hourly showstopper celebrating music from the musicals and big-screen. The service will broadcast 24 hours a day, is run by independent radio operator UKRD, and is also available to listen to on-line at www.oldiessussex.co.uk.

UKRD's Paul Marcus explained that whilst the songs being played have stood the test of time, he expects the music to appeal to people of all ages, “Whilst it’s true that our station will be playing older music, you don't have to ‘be old' to listen!! Indeed, by showcasing the classic hits of the 60’s and 70’s we will enable a new generation of listeners to discover artists for the first time, many of whom have had a huge influence on the current music scene.”

Oldies Sussex is the third UKRD Oldies radio service to launch following Pirate Oldies in Cornwall and North Yorkshire Oldies.
