“The home of Proper Local Radio” that’s how Dave Coull UKRD’s Group Content Director described the Local Radio Day App which was launched today. The App that is available from the App Store, Google Play for Android and the Amazon App store for Kindle is a companion App for Local Radio Day and will allow users to stream any of the local radio stations participating in the initiative.

With just five days to go until the inaugural event, and with more than 50 radio stations now signed up to participate in Local Radio Day William Rogers, UKRD’s Chief Executive confirmed that it hasn’t just been radio stations wanting to show their support for Local Radio. “Whether it is the endorsement of John Whittingdale, Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, or the kind words of Siobhan Kenny at the Radio Centre the desire to participate and support Local Radio Day has been hugely encouraging,” said Rogers.

The launch of the Local Radio Day App coincides with the announcement that Ignite Jingles have produced a Local Radio Day jingle package which is now available to all participating radio stations free of charge. “We passionately believe in the importance of local radio in the UK, and already work with many of the stations involved in this special initiative. So, it seemed natural to create some special themes to help fly the flag for Local Radio Day,” said Chris Stevens Managing Director of Ignite Jingles. “Chris believes passionately in local radio and for him to show that by supporting Local Radio Day like this is hugely appreciated,” added Coull.

Local Radio Day is happening this Friday, the 27th May. To get find out more, get involved or download the App go to www.localradioday.co.uk
