Star Radio North East Saved from Closure

UKRD has today announced that it has reached agreement with the View TV Group to sell them Star Radio North East, thus ensuring that its future is secured.

On Monday of this week, UKRD announced that it was preparing to close the station within days but confirmed in an interview with Radio Today that it would consider last minute offers for the business. This resulted in a number of people making contact to discuss the sale.

“We have been working incredibly hard over the last few days to try and make sure a sale took place which, as far as possible, secures the future of the station and those working there,” said UKRD’s CEO, William Rogers. “Both the teams from UKRD and View TV have burned the midnight oil to get this done and I’m delighted that a deal has been secured.”

A partnership between The View TV Group and radio operator, Darren Shortt, has been created to ensure the future of the radio station and they took control of the operations as of 31st March.

The new owners, Darren Shortt and Jamie Branson, have both expressed their delight at having the opportunity to run the operation and View TV Group Chairman, Jamie Branson, said that he was looking forward to working with the team to secure the stations future.

“It’s exciting times ahead for the existing team and the local area as we look forward to a successful future,” said Mr Branson

Darren Shortt added, “We look forward to creating some amazing radio and bringing the area a fun and informative station the region can be very proud of.”
