With almost 60 stations having registered to take part and many more indicating their support on the day itself, Local Radio Day has been hailed “a great success and a strong foundation upon which to build for the years ahead,” by UKRD’s Chief Executive Officer, William Rogers.
“The home of Proper Local Radio” that’s how Dave Coull UKRD’s Group Content Director described the Local Radio Day App which was launched today. The App that is available from the App Store, Google Play for Android and the Amazon App store for Kindle is a companion App for Local Radio Day and will allow users to stream any of the local radio stations participating in the initiative.

New York Festivals International Radio Program Awards Announces Two Category Finalist Positions for UKRD Production Team
Commercial radio operator, UKRD Group, is celebrating the news this week that its Head of Production, Colin McGinness, has been confirmed as a finalist in two categories in the International Radio Program Awards based out of New York.
Local Radio Day received a further boost this week when BBC local radio stations, BBC Surrey and BBC Sussex added their names to those already celebrating Local Radio Day on May 27th
Secretary of State for Culture Media and Sport, John Whittingdale, has endorsed UKRD initiative “Local Radio Day” and has commended the role local radio plays in the local communities it serves.
Following the announcement on Tuesday that Local Radio Day is to be held on May 27th this year, local stations have started to join the campaign and sign up to the day to celebrate the achievements of proper local radio in the sector. Nation Broadcasting, with its five local stations in Wales, including Bridge FM and Swansea Bay Radio, was first to announce its involvement.
All things local are at the heart of UKRD’s latest initiative, Local Radio Day, which is aimed at what they describe as “proper” local radio. The day itself, Friday May 27th , will see the group's fifteen stations undertaking events, tours and community activities all focussed on representing the unique nature of “proper local radio” and the impact it has within the communities it serves. UKRD would also like other local radio stations to get involved if they’d like to.
The makers of Eagle Radio have announced that there will be further choice for radio listeners in Surrey and Hampshire with the launch of Eagle Oldies in April.
Local commercial radio operator, UKRD, has announced that its recently appointed Group Programme Director, Dave Coull, has had his title changed to that of Group Content Director with immediate effect, with his deputy, Peter Gordon, becoming Deputy Group Content Director.
Over 50 radio stations to participate in Local Radio Day
Over fifty radio stations have now confirmed they will participate in this years’ Local Radio Day event. On the day itself, the 26th May, “proper” local radio stations will celebrate local radio engagement in the areas and communities they areproud to be a part of and broadcast to.
